Director-General Wu visits Memphis, Tennessee

Director-General R.C. Wu of TECO in Atlanta, accompanied by Senior Consular Officer Bill Huang, visited Memphis, Tennessee January 25-26, 2004.

During the visit, D-G Wu met with Mayor A C Wharton of Shelby County, home to several prominent U.S. companies, including Fed Ex and Auto Zone.

He also had meetings with Mayor Sharon Goldsworthy of Germantown, Dr. Shannon Blanton, Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of Memphis (UM) and Dr. Robert Blanton, Professor of International Relations at UM. Mr. Wu discuss with them matters of mutual interest, including the March 20 presidential election and the referendum in Taiwan.

Mr. Wu also visited the state-of-the-art FedEx Institute of Technology at UM, where he explored the possibility of academic and technological exchanges between Taiwan and UM.

He also attended the New Year celebration of the Chinese Association of Memphis.
