August 12, 2004 Director-General Rong-Chuan Wu of TECO-Atlanta, accompanied by Senior Consular Officer Bill Huang, met with U.S. Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr. (R-TN) in Knoxville, Tennessee on August 11, 2004. Also attending the meeting was Dr. Henry Lee, organizer of the Tennessee chapter of the Formosa Association for Public Affairs (FAPA), a Taiwanese-American organization advocating closer ties between Taiwan and the United States. D-G Wu briefed Congressman Duncan on Taiwan's latest developments in economy, trade, and political democratizations. Congressman Duncan praised the contributions of the Tennessee Taiwanese community to the economic and cultural vitality of the host state. He remarked on his friendship with more than a few University of Tennessee alumni in Taiwan, many of which are prominent business and political leaders and are the main driving force behind the ever closer relations between Taiwan and the Volunteer State. Congressman Duncan also expressed his wishes for a closer ties between Taiwan and Tennessee. |
