News & Events >> 2008 Cobb County Seniors Celebrate Lunar New Year February 6, 2008 On Wednesday, February 6th, Director General R.C. Wu led TECO staff and the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta representatives to join the Cobb County Seniors at the East Cobb Senior Center in Marietta for a Lunar New Year luncheon and cultural exchange. President of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta, Mr. Joe Tu, shared his Lunar New Year memories from his years in Taiwan and gave his personal New Year best wishes to the venerable audience. Director General Wu explained the general traditions and cultural significance of the New Year and then joined with Mr. Tu to honor some the of the eldest seniors with hung bao, or the red envelope money, that is given for good luck at the beginning of the Lunar New Year. Eve Hao generously provided several dances for entertainment and for the cultural enrichment of the program. Her students and fellow dancers from the Eve Hao Dance School, Maggie Chen and Alice Tang, also performed traditionally festive Taiwanese dances.After the dance performances, Mr. Tu and leading members of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Atlanta and the Taiwanese American community, including Ben Huang, James Hsu, and Tammy Liu, joined with Director General Wu and TECO staff to serve the seniors a lunch. Ms. Geneva Eddington and Ms. Linda Martin from the Cobb County Department of Senior Services, as well as the staff of the East Cobb Senior Center, helped to coordinate this Lunar New Year event on behalf of the valued senior population in Cobb County.
