The festival is an annual fundraiser for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Hundreds of trees are decorated and displayed in the Georgia World Congress Center to be auctioned off to raise funds. The Festival of Trees begins the holiday season in Atlanta with an indoor parade and continues throughout the week as thousands of visitors browse the decorative creations. Each day of the festival has a different highlighted event, ranging from a gingerbread competition and face painting to autograph signings by NASCAR driver, Bill Elliot and local choirs performing Christmas carols. There are many activities for both adults and children. Lesley Frappier and Celine Longpre of the Canadian Women’s Club of Atlanta manage and operate the festival’s International Village. This year, about 20 countries designed a festive vignette that represented the holidays in their own country. Taipei Economic and Cultural Office decorated in the spirit of Lunar New Year. The International Village is organized as part of the celebration to bring unity and community awareness of Atlanta’s diverse population. Local schools teamed up with the International coordinators, Ms. Frappier and Ms. Longpre, to teach their students about the international community represented in Atlanta through interactive lesson plans and tours of the International Village.
