TECO Celebrated Lunar New Year with Cobb County Senior Center Members

The members of the Cobb County Senior Center, together with seniors of the Taiwanese community in Atlanta, were invited to the “Celebration of the Lunar New Year” held by TECO on January 26th. The 50 some guests were entertained with a film titled “Celebrating Lunar New Year on Taiwan,” discussion were made during the playing of the film. Mrs. Cathy Latherm, Director of the Cobb County Senior Center, expressed the appreciation to TECO for presenting the introduction of the Lunar New year to her members. She said that the film demonstrates Taiwan’s efforts in preserving and promoting the uniqueness of Taiwanese cultural after the mature development of its economy. All her members were impressed by the implication of different rituals of the Lunar New Year, especially the seniors’ issuing the well-wishing “red envelops” to the youngsters, which realizes the pious respect to the elders in Taiwanese culture. The Taiwanese seniors also help explain the exhibitions to their counterparts from the Cobb County, all the participants enjoyed the function in celebration of the New Year.

辦事處向美國長春會員介紹農曆新年習俗

駐亞特蘭大台北經濟文化辦事處於該處會議室舉辦「農曆新年饗宴」活動，邀請喬治亞州卡布(Cobb)郡長春中心會員及亞城僑界人士50餘人參加，與會人士觀賞了「年」影片，與會者並熱烈交流聯誼。活動首先播放光華傳播製作之「年」影片，介紹台灣人過年閤家團圓、回娘家、商業開市、舞龍舞獅、元宵節搓湯圓等源由，透過鏡頭將台灣傳統人家過年活動生動的呈現，在舞龍舞獅畫面中配以鑼鼓喧天音效，讓與會者猶如身歷其境。

經文處處長吳榮泉致詞歡迎與會貴賓時表示，台灣的國民所得從1950年代的一百美元到2005年的1萬5000元，這50多年政府與人民共同創造的台灣奇蹟，除了造就政經成就之外，最重要的是保存並發揚傳統文化，這是在共產中國或殖民香港絕對辦不到的。卡布郡長春中心主任拉瑟(Cathy Lathem)代表致謝詞，她感謝經文處給該會成員上了一堂有意義的農曆新年課程，影片內容充分展現台灣經濟發展後保存及發揚華人傳統精緻文化的一面，尤其台灣人在年節慶祝儀式中由年長者發紅包等活動，讓他們瞭解敬老尊賢的真諦，另外各種特殊年節習俗都代表不同意義，令他們印象深刻。

大鵬聯誼會會長徐孝華及王名賢兩位教授則講述從小由大陸隨國府播遷到台灣，輾轉移民來美國30年的生活經驗與來賓分享。
