Alabama Mayors Consolidated Relations with Taiwanese Business Leaders in Atlanta

Accompanied by the members of the Atlanta Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce (ATCC), Director General R.C. Wu of TECO received a delegation consisting of mayors from Alabama on April 8th, 2006. The delegation, initiated by Mayor Johnny Ford of Tuskegee, Alabama met with Taiwanese business leaders to discuss plans for future cooperation between the two sides. Director General Wu began the meeting with a film, ¡§Taiwan Touch Your Heart¡¨, which introduces Taiwan from a foreign visitor¡¦s view point. The film was followed by Mr. Wu¡¦s description of Taiwan¡¦s latest social and economic developments as well as of current cross strait relations. Mr. Wu called on all the guests to support the Free Trade Agreement between the US and Taiwan as well as Taiwan¡¦s bid to join the UN and WHO. Mr. Jack Kuo, President of ATCC, also expressed interest in working with the participating mayors in promoting their regional investment opportunities.

On behalf of the delegation, Mayor Ford expressed his appreciation for the hospitality accorded by Director General Wu and the Taiwanese businesses in Atlanta, and indicated his wish of attracting more Taiwanese investments to the cities represented by his delegation. He also hoped that his delegation members would have the chance to visit Taiwan so as to witness the achievements made by the twenty-three million Taiwan people that amazed him during his stay in Taipei when attending the ¡§2005 Taipei International Healthy Cities Conference and Exhibition.¡¨
