March 21, 2006

Taiwan joined the 24th International Cherry Blossom Festival¡¦s 9-day event on March 20, 2006. Taiwan was honored as one of the festival¡¦s five featured countries, among Japan, Israel, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and Ghana. The festivities, in celebration of diversity and in promotion of diplomacy, were held in Macon, Georgia, ¡§The Cherry Blossom Capital of the World".

Ambassador and Madame David Lee, from Taiwan¡¦s Washington D.C. office, and San Hsin High School¡¦s Dance Troupe from Kaoshiung, Taiwan formed a good-will delegation to attend the festivities. The Taiwan float won the prize for ¡§Most Creative¡¨ and event coordinators expressed an overall delight with the Taiwanese dances performed by the San Hsin High School students.

While on their first trip to the U.S., the San Hsin High School Dance Troupe also made a stop in Douglasville, GA to perform at Douglas County High School. Their audience consisted of students, teachers and local community leaders. Mayor Mickey Thompson joined the delegation, the Douglasville Cultural Arts Council members, and Taiwanese Community leaders, including Director General R.C. Wu, after the show to enjoy Taiwanese food at a reception held in the lovely, historic home of Douglasville Cultural Arts Council.
