Director General R.C. Wu met the Taiwanese students in Knoxville

Director General R.C. Wu, accompanied by Senior Consular Officer Robin Cheng, met with the Taiwanese students and directors of international student offices from the University of Tennessee, Carson Newman College and Maryville College in Knoxville on February 11. The meeting took place at the Golden Wok Restaurant owned by Mr. Sam Wang. Mr. Wang closed the restaurant for the meeting and prepared authentic Taiwanese food for the students. Dr. Henry Lee, Advisor of Overseas Chinese Affairs as well as a renowned dentist in Knoxville, who has been providing the Taiwanese students with all necessary assistances for years, also help sponsor the event with Mr. Wang.

Mr. Wu made a speech introducing the latest political, economic and social developments in Taiwan and the current situation across the Taiwan Strait. Mr. Wu's speech was followed by a Q & A session. The student¡¦s questions, ranging from those concerning Taiwan's future to daily matters, were answered by Mr. Wu and Mr. Cheng. All the participants enjoyed the program and expressed hopes that such discussions would continue to be held periodically in the future. Dr. Lee pointed out that this is the first time, since he has resided in Knoxville 30 years ago, that a high ranking diplomat from TECO came to visit the Taiwanese students in the area. He appreciated Mr. Wu's thoughtfulness in showing the Taiwanese Government's consideration of the Taiwanese students' well-being.
