Director-General R.C. Wu addresses UNC-Chapel Hill students and faculty April 1, 2004 Director-General R.C. Wu of TECO-Atlanta recently addressed students and faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill's Carolina Asia Center. His lecture, ¡§The Contemporary Political and Economic Development of Taiwan and Cross-strait Relations¡¨ took place on March 24, 2004. Center Director Dr. Steve Levine presided over the event. D-G Wu began by discussing Taiwan's unique role in the international community. Taiwan, he told his audience, has been rebuffed by the UN and unjustly denied its rightful role in the international community. The nation has, nevertheless, continued to play an important and constructive role throughout the world. He went on to discuss contemporary Taiwan, telling his audience about the scenic beauty and diverse culture of modern Taiwan. He addressed the tremendous political and economic advances the country has made in recent years and how this transformation has affected cross-strait relations. Finally, he briefed the audience on the issues of the recent presidential election results. |
