Wu speaks at Tuskegee University
April 8, 2004 Director-General Rong-Chuan Wu of TECO-Atlanta visited Tuskegee University in Alabama on April 7, 2004. During the visit, he addressed both the faculty and the students of the College of Business and Information Science (CBIS) on the March 20th ROC Presidential election along with the latest developments in Taiwan. D-G Wu was accompanied by Senior Consular Officer Bill Huang. During the two speeches, D-G Wu stressed the transparent presidential election in Taiwan demonstrates to the world that mature democracy is not only desirable but also attainable in a Chinese society. As for the disputes after the presidential election, Mr. Wu stated, as the result of the slim difference of votes between the two tickets, it would be resolved by due process of law. As a Taiwanese diplomat, Mr. Wu said he is proud of the composure and wisdom of the Taiwanese even when faced with such unprecedented disturbance. The belief in democracy and the respect for rule of law as demonstrated recently by the people in Taiwan is the driving force behind Taiwanˇ¦s civil society, Mr. Wu emphasized. |
