Three Generations of Taiwanese Art Exhibition held in University
of Louisville, Kentucky

The opening ceremony of ˇ§Place/Displace:
Three Generations of Taiwanese Artˇ¨ exhibition was held in the Schneider
Hall, University of Louisville in the afternoon of November 18, 2004.
Co-sponsored by Council for Cultural Affairs of Taiwan as well as Allen
R. Hite Art Institute of University of Louisville, the exhibition boasts
of masterpieces by twenty-four Taiwanese artists, including calligraphy,
ink painting, color-glue painting, oil painting, avant-garde installation
art and video art. The exhibition will last for three months from November
18, 2004 to January 15, 2005.
On behalf of Mayor Abramson of Louisville city, Director of International
Relations of the city, Mr. Omar Ayyash in his brief remarks commended
the efforts and success of the exhibition. Curator Charles Liu and Professor
John Bagley, Director of Gallery of Allen R. Hite Art Institute of the
University both expressed thanks to National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts
for this wonderful exhibition and expected future cooperation.
Director General R. C. WU of TECO- Atlanta commented that the exhibition
tells the developments of three Taiwanese arts generations, including
those during Japanese occupation, after World War II and contemporary
ones. He stressed that during the past several decades, Taiwan society
has progressed from restrictions of various kinds to a full democracy,
and that provides a better environment for art creations.
