R.C. Wu attends seminars at Duke and Wake Forest University
April 1, 2004 Director-General R.C. Wu of TECO-Atlanta recently attended two academic seminars respectively hosted by Duke University, and Wake Forest University of North Carolina from March 24 to 25, 2004. D-G Wu addressed students and faculty on the topic of The Contemporary Political and Economic Development of Taiwan and Cross-strait Relationsˇ¨ He also touched upon the implications and significance of the recent Taiwan presidential election results. Several scholars, including John Garver, political scientist of Georgia Tech, Steve Levine, China studies ˇ§old handˇ¨ of UNC-Chapel Hill, Emerson Niou, Taiwanese professor of Duke University and Wei-Chin Lee, political scientist of Wake Forest University were also at the seminars. Those academics at seminars all appraised the achievement and success for Taiwan's democratization, and to keep economic prosperity and political stability across the Taiwan Straits, they also urged Taiwan and China to refrain from any confrontation between the two sides. Professor Garver and Levine particularly pointed out Taiwan's voice must be heard in the international community and that the U.S. government should find a way to assist Taiwan's participation in international organizations |
