Events & Activities News >> 2003 Director-General Wu addresses World Conference of Mayors December 15, 2003 At the invitation of World Conference of Mayors (WCM), Director-General R.C. Wu of TECO-Atlanta delivered a speech at the WCM annual convention in Tuskegee University in Alabama on December 15, 2003. D-G Wu was accompanied by Senior Consular Officer Bill Huang. In his speech, D-G Wu touched upon the development and progress of democratization of the Republic of China on Taiwan as well as relations between Taiwan and Mainland China. D-G Wu also complimented WCM on its friendship towards the Republic of China since the organizationˇ¦s inception in 1984. Mr. Wu made particular note of WCM's resolution to help Taiwan join international governmental organizations such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization. During the convention, WCM President Samba Faal, Secretary of State for Youth and Sports of the Gambia, presented D-G Wu with a plaque in appreciation of the ROC's onging support and friendship. This year's WCM convention was attended by more than 250 political and business leaders from 13 nations, including Senegal and the Gambia, two of the Republic of China's staunchest allies in Africa. Dignitaries from those two countries praise Taiwan for providing technological and medical assistance to raise living standards for their people. The World of Mayors, also know as the United Nation of Cities is composed of 5,600 mayors and legislators from 26 countries. Headquared in Tuskegee, Alabama, WCM is dedicated to promoting trade, technological and educational exchanges among cities all over the world.
